Our Commitment to Child Safety

Ivy Kids Early Learning is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of all children at our organisation. We have zero tolerance of child abuse and understand our legal and moral obligations to treat all concerns seriously and to report allegations and concerns about a child/ren’s safety and wellbeing to authorities.

We are committed to the cultural safety of all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and to providing a safe environment for children with a disability, and the safety of children who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community.

We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming learning environment that recognises and values the diverse

backgrounds and experiences of all children, families, and the local community.

Our commitment is to child safety is outlined in the following areas and forms part of our approach up upholding the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards, where children are protected from harm, abuse or neglect:

1. Child Safety Culture

  • We prioritise every child's right to safety, respect, and empowerment
  • We actively embed child safety throughout all service operations
  • We have zero tolerance for child abuse, neglect, or any form of harm
  • We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with disabilities.
  • We ensure all staff, volunteers, and stakeholders adhere to our child safe policies, Codes of Conduct, and legal obligations.
  • We foster open communication with families and children

2. Child Safe Environment

  • We recognise that every child has the right to feel safe and to be safe
  • We regularly assess and minimise potential risks to children in both physical and online environments
  • We create physically, emotionally and culturally safe spaces for all children

3. Child Safe Recruitment and Training

  • We empower all staff and volunteers to uphold child safety, wellbeing, and empowerment as core responsibilities.
  • We implement rigorous child-safe recruitment practices for all personnel
  • We conduct regular supervision to ensure adherence to our safety standards
  • We provide comprehensive training to equip staff with skills to identify, prevent, and respond to risks of abuse or neglect

4. Child Participation

  • We actively involve children in decisions affecting them
  • We listen to and respect children's voices
  • We empower children to speak up about their safety concerns

5. Child Safety Response and Reporting

  • We encourage a culture where the reporting of abuse is actively supported
  • We respond promptly and thoroughly to all allegations and child safety concerns
  • We acknowledge our legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when concerned about a child's safety
  • We respond promptly and thoroughly to any child safety concerns

6. Child-Centred Continuous Improvement

  • We collaborate with staff, families, and children to regularly review and improve policies and procedures, ensuring they remain effective and aligned with child safety best practices
